Shedrick: Thank You, Lord

I was very fortunate to be counted among the group of fellows selected to participate in the Angel Tree Christmas Party.  I never could have imagined such a grand display of Christ’s love.

My kids were not able to come to the Angel Tree party but my parents were there.  The defining moment came when I got to wrap each of the beautiful gifts provided for my kids.  It was the first time I’ve been blessed to present my darling 15-year old daughter with gifts wrapped by my hands.  Mere words can’t convey how I felt.

Before long I got her letter: “For Christmas the only gift that made me happy was yours!   I went got on my knees and said, ‘Lord thank you for the father I got and will always have.  Thank you very much.’”

I’m not ashamed to admit the tears of joy were flowing.  She also wrote, “I wear my jacket when I’m cold.  I look at my clock when I need to know the time and listen to my CD player every moment I get.  I just thank the Lord for my dad.”

I’ve been incarcerated 14 of my daughter’s 16 years.  Now the Lord has blessed me beyond measure.  Truly, I’m grateful.
